A summer for awesome new laptops! Since switching jobs out of the creative industry and into a full-on tech industry role, I’m pretty much back into the full on Windows/PC world again. That’s not a complaint, but I always enjoyed being able to work on both platforms. So that had me thinking I should probably get out and finally buy my own Mac. After having worked on a tricked out Macbook Pro for about 2 years with 8 GB of RAM and a solid state drive I had been used to a computer at work that I never had to wait for; we also had 100mb/s symmetrical connection, so that helped too. But I digress. Get ready to see some awesome new laptops come out this year. The Macbook line is going to get shaken up again with the Pro line seeing another face lift and some beefy new processing power. Odds are this will be where my next big purchase is, followed swiftly by a new 200 GB SSD. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/05/macbook-pro-rumor-rollup-thinner-better-faster-stronger/ But Apple isn’t the only company looking to make some waves. The Lenovo X1 since it’s release last year has been a great performing laptop that is thin, rugged, and frankly I think it’s pretty damn sexual. One year after release, we get a refresh with a carbon fiber chassis. As a car lover, I have had a secret passion for carbon fiber for a long time (though, it became tacky for cars reaaaaal quick) and have been eagerly awaiting it’s use in other industries. Lighter is everything these days for laptops, so how about a 3lb 14” carbon fiber laptop? Yummy. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/05/macbook-pro-rumor-rollup-thinner-better-faster-stronger/

A computer the size of a credit card One of my coworkers just showed me this awesome new computer called Raspberry Pi. It’s a computer the size of a credit card, 700MHz CPU, onboard GPU, 256MB of RAM, USB, Ethernet, optional wireless, SD card slot for storage/boot drive, capable of playing Quake 3… all the size of a credit card. How fucking cool is THAT!? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry_Pi
